UK gear manufacturer Berghaus unveils initiative to encourage more people to get outdoors

Sat 26th of August 2017

Last year, Berghaus ran the Get Out Game – a ‘journey into the outdoors’ in which participants had to look for ‘extraordinary things in four extraordinary locations’. This year the brand has joined forces with leading outdoor navigation app ViewRanger (recommended by our Gear Editor Chris Townsend) to launch the Trail Takeover on Saturday the 26th of August.

This event – which is free – is all about encouraging more people to try outdoor activities. It’s Berghaus’s first official event as part of the #ItsGreatOutThere campaign, a pan-European collaboration between brands and retailers which is designed to increase participation in outdoor activities.

This year’s Trail Takeover will be held in three locations: Central Scotland, the Cotswolds, and the Peak District. Berghaus is offering prizes for participants, including gift cards and an outdoor activity holiday worth £2,000. If you’d like to join in, visit http://www.berghaus.com/trailtakeover.html to sign up and download the ViewRanger app from http://www.viewranger.com/en-gb/get-the-app. On August the 24th, you’ll receive a free ViewRanger route to download.

The event begins at 10.00 on the 26th of August and all participants will be entered in the draw to win a £2,000 holiday. Berghaus also promise that there will be many more prizes and surprises hidden in the hills, which you can find by following the route.

Our take on this event? TGO readers are unlikely to need additional incentives to get outside, but if you’ve been struggling to persuade friends or family members – maybe your kids – to venture out into the hills, this could be an excellent opportunity.

Richard Leedham, Berghaus brand president, said: “We’re really excited about the potential of the Trail Takeover.  The bank holiday weekend is a perfect opportunity for people to spend time outdoors with their family and friends and we’ve come up with a really accessible way to do that. Partnering with ViewRanger is a great way to help the public use the latest technology to explore some beautiful locations, and our team will be out along the trails to make sure that everyone has a memorable time.  As well as existing enthusiasts, we hope to introduce a lot of new faces to the outdoors on the day, who will be inspired to return again and again.”
