MAMMUT Aconcagua (£75)

TGO Rating 3 stars

The Aconcagua arrived when this feature was already in the hands of TGO’s designer, leaving insufficient testing time. However, it’s unlikely that my wardrobe manager (aka Steph) would have allowed me through the front door in the Aconcagua anyway.

Though the cut (like me) isn’t particularly athletic, the bright red XL sample is a tight fit and, stretched around my cask-conditioned belly (normally L or XL), resembles a gigantic Comic Relief nose. Power Stretch is primarily intended for next-to- skin use, but I prefer a light merino top underneath, at least. The Aconcagua’s sleeves will roll up for venting but are constricting, not helped by Lycra edging (also featured around collar and waist hems). Thumb loops in the sleeves run right to that Lycra hem. Features include a modest-sized, vertical-zipped chest pocket with a small opening, and a protective, 9cm double-thickness collar with a generous 32cm zip and good beard/chin guard.
