Neither the lightest nor the cheapest garment tested but the Pulse ticks almost every box.
It features two of Polartec’s Classic fabrics: the Classic 100 Recycled used on the torso looks more like a more traditional 200 weight fabric, which I put down to the brushed appearance of its outer face; sleeves and underarm are in lighter, cooler Classic Micro. Both have a stretch quality though the cut, especially in the easily rolled-up sleeves, is relaxed. The chest pocket opens vertically (along with price, the only real bugbear here) but is massive and is mesh-lined to boost ventilation, if needed: the two-way chest zip is 44cm deep; any deeper and you’d call this a jacket. The collar, at 7cm, is optimal and, while there’s no cuff elastication, the waist – unique here – has a single-hand-use drawcord to stop draughts whipping up your lumbar, missus.
