MOUNTAIN EQUIPMENT Jorasses Microfleece (£65)

TGO Rating 4.5 stars

The Jorasses offers a fine bodymapping-style blend of warming fabrics – Polartec’s 100 Micro fabric and more expensive Power Stretch – in a garment which I’ve found suitable for backpacking and day walks alike.

It fits well where it counts while providing insulation and fast-drying properties all over. The Power Stretch panels – under arms, on torso sides and at wrists – ensure a snug rather than a relaxed fit that’s still comfortable rather than gut-consciously “athletic”. At 7cm deep the collar’s the perfect height for wind protection without face harassment. The Power Stretch cuffs, which each have a Lycra-elasticated hem, will roll up but I found them just a little tight at the elbows when the sleeves were rolled up. Thumb loops are provided in the long-cut sleeves. Venting options are fine, with a 30cm-deep zip down the chest and a mesh backing to the small, vertically zipped chest pocket.
