I have mixed feelings about the Flux. It’s heavier than other garments of similar warmth but it has an excellent hood, good pockets, a more substantial shell material and is longer.

The Flux has two types of insulation – 60g PrimaLoft in the shoulders, back, sleeves and top and back of the hood and two layers of Montane’s own 25g Prism in the front, sides, cuffs and sides of the hood. The choice of warmer fabric in the back of the garment, where it will be compressed by a pack, is odd – but I haven’t noticed much variation in warmth between the different areas. The mid pockets are warm and roomy, and the chest pockets easily swallow maps, hats and gloves. The collar is lined with soft, warm fleece. Only a Large sample was available and this is roomy on me. I wouldn’t choose the Flux for lightweight backpacking but when weight is less critical it has features lighter alternatives lack.
