Wool Ultra is claimed to be 30% better than other wool – 30% less friction, 30% faster drying, 30% faster at absorbing moisture and 30% lighter.
Now I can’t say I’ve noticed any difference in the first three compared with other merino wool socks, merino being good in these areas anywhere, but these socks are certainly quite light for the warmth provided. They are very comfortable too with thick, dense terry loops throughout and thicker areas at the ball, heel, toes and ankle for better durability and comfort. There are stretchy bands over the arch and at the ankle for a snug fit, a Y gore at the heel, an offset toe seam and an elastic cuff band. The socks are quite long, coming to the top of the calf, which adds to the warmth. I wore these socks in light footwear in deep snow and they kept my feet warm and dry. While not as thick as the Teko Expedition they are cold weather socks and not ones I would wear in summer.
