Regatta’s Trek & Trail socks are good value and suitable for year-round walking except in the coldest weather. They have terry loops throughout except for four thin flat-knit ventilation channels under the foot.
I can’t see the point of these as this part of the sock is pressed between the foot and the boot or shoe. The top of the foot would seem to be the logical place for ventilation while underfoot is where unbroken padding is needed. I haven’t noticed these channels in use however. The socks have a stretch band at the instep and an offset toe seam. There’s a double rib-knit cuff that is quite stretchy though no elastic here. The socks have an anti-bacterial treatment that works okay, with the socks still smelling fairly fresh after a day out – of course the 40% wool will help here. Turned inside out the socks look very ragged with many loose strands of wool along stitch lines. So far this hasn’t affected the performance.
