The latest incarnation of the G2 Pants are thinner and sleeker than the originals, which I recommended five years ago. They are made from a new, lighter Windstopper fabric and have welded pocket and vent seams and reversed zips.
The fabric is stretchy and the fit quite close without being skin-tight. The knees are shaped and there’s an extra crotch panel for movement. The fabric is windproof and effectively waterproof though the seams aren’t sealed and the zips are unprotected. The soft, brushed inner fabric feels comfortable against the skin. Although the pants are fairly thin, the Windstopper membrane makes them quite warm, at least while moving. In temperatures above +5ºC they felt sticky, especially when there was no wind (the two vents help a little but they are quite short and narrow). In sub-zero temperatures they can be a little chilly however so long underwear or overtrousers are useful, particularly when stationary. For cold weather hiking and backpacking these are good trousers that can be worn alone most of the time.
