The Ether is the lightest hooded jacket tested and performs just as well as ones made from similar thin fabrics, being windproof and somewhat rain-resistant. The fabric is mostly recycled too, a nice green bonus.
Some of it is anti static, though I’m not sure what benefit this has. The hood is a basic one but it does move with the head when cinched down. There’s one tiny pocket near the hem into which the Ether can be stuffed. It’s covered by a pack hipbelt but when not wearing one it could be used for little items like a compass, credit card or some cash. GoLite describes the Ether as semi-fitted. I found the Medium roomy and comfortable worn over a thin fleece. There’s little to choose between the Ether and the Montane Lite-Speed but the lower weight of GoLite’s jacket just gives it the edge. It comes a close second to Páramo’s Fuera Smock; on a long backpacking trip, I’d choose the Ether due to its lighter weight.
