Lowe Alpine’s Alpine Speedy Jacket is a light hooded windproof comparable with the GoLite Ether and the Montane Lite-Speed. However it’s more expensive than either of these jackets and heavier than the Ether.
The hood does make the Speedy more versatile than a hoodless garment but the hood isn’t adjustable and strong winds can push it back off your forehead, despite the elasticated rim. Drawcords would be better. The windproof, breathable, slightly water-resistant fabric performs much the same as on other garments. The front zip is chunkier than those on the Ether and Lite-Speed, which might make it more durable. The Speedy packs into the small chest pocket, which is big enough for a wallet, compass, mobile phone or other small items. The fit is on the slim side, the Medium only just fitting over a thin fleece. This isn’t a bad jacket but the Ether and Lite-Speed just have the edge over it in design and price.
