As I was disappointed when it was dropped a few years ago I was delighted to learn that Mountain Equipment had reintroduced the Microtherm jacket, a lined windproof that is roughly equivalent in warmth to a lightweight fleece.

It’s too warm above 10ºC for me but in cooler weather it’s excellent, providing warmth, wicking and wind resistance while being very breathable. The new Microtherm has a raised micro-grid lining that is very comfortable, a microfleece lined collar, mid-height pockets just accessible when wearing a hipbelt but not big enough for maps, and thumb loops so the long sleeves can be held in place over the hands for warmth. A 12g mesh stuffsack is provided or the jacket can be stuffed into one of its pockets. Sizing is on the small side as the Large fits me over a thin base layer. The weight is low for a lined windproof and the Microtherm is an excellent choice for autumn to spring use.
