KARRIMOR Grenada (£40)

Karrimor’s Grenadas are traditional looking suede sandals. The front and instep straps are linked by a wide suede band, providing more protection than sandals with separate narrow straps.

There’s a stiff reinforcement each side of the instep strap that helps pull this in firmly round the foot. The rear strap has Velcro fastenings on both sides so it can be removed and the sandals used as slip-ons for casual use. The design is good but the front and instep straps are quite short and the Velcro strips even shorter, which doesn’t allow for much adjustability. On my fairly wide feet the front strap only just closes. The straps and the shaped footbed feel comfortable against the skin. The brushed footbed has a matt finish and is soft and non-slip. There are grooves cut in it too to ensure the foot stays in place. The edges are slightly raised for foot protection. Cushioning is good and the sole has the same excellent tread as the Arubas and grips very well. It’s quite flexible and so best suited to those who don’t like stiff footwear. If the straps fit these are good sandals.
