These are sandals for people who want maximum protection along with some ventilation. Indeed, they are almost shoes with just three open slots on each side and an open heel.

They have a fully enclosed toe with a thick rubber toe bumper – you can kick rocks with these. The front lace adjusts with a cordlock. At the top this is attached to the sole and the heel by stiff pieces of plastic so that when you tighten the lace the sandal is pulled in firmly round the foot. I wasn’t able to test this however as the fit is quite narrow and I didn’t need to tighten the laces at all for the sandals to fit securely. The uppers are padded and feel comfortable against the skin. The enclosed shape means there’s a removable insole that could be replaced by a supportive footbed or orthotic. The Vibram sole grips well. Cushioning is reasonable. The rear strap is removable so the sandals can be used as slip-ons for casual use. The weight is quite high due to all the extra material.
