Kathmandu’s self-inflating mat is comfortable and the price is quite low for this type of mat. However it’s not that warm given the weight and bulk.

This is because the foam is cored – hold it up to the light and you can see through the diamond-shaped holes. Due to this it only has a two- to three-season rating despite the thickness. The shell fabric is textured so it doesn’t slip around on the groundsheet. The valve is quite small, which slows down inflation and deflation, especially the latter. Rolling it up has to be done in almost slow motion in order for all the air to be forced out. When deflated the mat is still quite bulky. There is a 120cm Standard version that weighs 600 grams and which should be more compact. Kathmandu also makes three other ranges of self-inflating mats in different thicknesses.
