The Laser Competition 1 is a proven ultralight tent. The design is the same as the Laser Ultra 1, with the same advantages and disadvantages other than the size. The Competition is bigger with better headroom and a larger porch, though care is still needed when cooking. For long trips I’d prefer this extra space. I wouldn’t like to sleep two in it, as Terra Nova suggests you can.

The 2011 version of the Competition has adjustable ends to the flysheet for ventilation, four extra guying points and a smaller pack size as the end poles now fold in two. The pegs are twice as heavy as those of the Ultra 1 but still too tiny to be much use on anything other hard ground. The weight is very low and the price reasonable.
