VANGO Apex 200 (£190)

Some tents are just not quite right and this is one of those. It’s nearly a good tent, especially given the low price. But although it’s designed for two people, the angle of the back of the inner means that you’d have to be quite small to avoid contact with the walls. For one person it would be okay but then the weight is very high. The inner is asymmetric
in shape, which means that the widest part of the porch is at one end rather than in the centre.

The angle of the porch walls means using a stove is inadvisable as there would be fabric not far away. There is a cross pole that could extend the porch but instead it just supports an awning over the door, inside which is a mesh panel for ventilation. The Apex can be pitched quickly and is reasonably stable, but there are better tents.
