Designed as a basic waterproof, the Seven J struck me as perhaps a tad overpriced, even within the budget context of this feature. On the plus side, pockets, torso and hood are mesh-lined, useful for assisting moisture dispersal. When
walking hard I was delighted to find moisture build-up was limited to the inner pocket’s fabric lining and the edge of the hood. The jacket supplied, however, was black (other colours are available); fashionable, perhaps, but impractical for
summer walking. It warmed up like an oven as soon as the sun hit it.
Pockets were rendered unusable by a pack belt. I found the hood uncomfortable: it didn’t move with my head and the floppy peak impeded vision; the hook-and-loop volume adjustment tab ripped apart with head movement. The jacket felt tight across my chest and rode up over my backside; while a size larger might have been more comfortable, the elasticated cuff s (not adjustable, as the blurb claimed) were a tad loose.
