The Pinnacle Lite is weighty – the second heaviest jacket here – but it packs a real protective feel; this is the kind of jacket we’ve traditionally turned to for foul weather protection, albeit with up-to-date design features. It’s well featured: fully mesh-lined, including the sleeves; hand pockets are sensibly positioned to be used when wearing a pack belt; and a double storm flap covers the chunky front zip, which conceals a pocket just big enough to hold a map. Pit zips extend down the sides.
The hood is excellent, easily adjusted both in terms of protecting your face without impeding forward vision – the projecting stiffened peak is wired – and of volume adjustment, using a rear drawcord. At the same time it’s not over-specified, which is perhaps how Keela has managed to peg the price under £100. I was impressed by how dry I remained within the jacket after a vigorous sustained hill ascent in heat, moisture dispersal no doubt helped by the jacket’s lining.
