TECHNICALS Techlite Jacket (£59.99)

TGO Rating 1.5 stars

Another only-available-in-black jacket which absorbs enough sunlight to bake the wearer. The Techlite jacket is lined with a polyester taff eta mesh which, according to the blurb, adds warmth; I’d prefer to think that it helped disperse collected condensation from the inner face so the jacket never felt wet but experience suggests otherwise: the breathability trial ended with my head soaked in sweat, shoulders and back very damp and arms sodden (the sleeves are fabric, rather than mesh-lined).

Largesized jackets usually suit my frame but the Techlite was tight across the shoulders and, although it pulled down over my backside, any arm movement saw it ride up again. Getting the hood to form a comfortable seal around my face was easy and the onehand-operated drawcord volume adjuster enabled a snug fit but the peak is narrow and flimsy and there’s little to protect the face or forward vision from driven rain.
