These are for wearing, not carrying. Cut is medium at the thigh and wide below the knee. A crotch panel and articulated knees allowed good movement, scuff guards were effective.

Built-in gaiters can be loosened when not in use, so didn’t get sweaty. The ankle can be tightened around a boot cuff using a Velcro tab – but all this ankle detail makes them impossible to shorten. Detachable braces connect at the hip, either side of the full side zips; on me, they stayed up fine without them. The waist has a short strip of wide elastic at the back and a flat front. The problem is at the sides, secured via a fabric strip tipped with Velcro which loops through a narrow plastic D-ring and back over the top of the side zips. Venting by zipping down allows the fabric to gape too far because it isn’t anchored at the top. It is also incredibly fiddly to refasten after a pee. I tested them over leggings and found breathability very good. These are good, if pricy, but are let down by the waist closure.
