Leo Houlding, one of Britain’s best known rock climbers and a Cumbrian lad, is going home to talk about his most recent adventures at the Keswick Mountain Festival.
He will appear on Saturday May 22 at the Theatre by the Lake, Keswick and talk about The Asgard Project which was really featured in TGO Magazine.
The Baffin Island adventure saw Leo and his two climbing partners skydiving into the Arctic Circle to start their attempt to ascend one of the most difficult big walls in the world.
It wasn’t easy, but Leo, Sean Leary and Carlos Suarez attempted to make the first free ascent of Mount Asgard’s North Face and then BASE jump from the summit in a wingsuit. It didn’t all go to plan – but they climbed and they flew!
Working with leading film maker Alasatair Lee, the film premiered at Kendal Mountain Festival in November and was voted the People’s Choice – winning five times as many votes as any other film.
Leo’s talk is part of Keswick Mountain Festival, which is being held between May 19-23 and jointly sponsored by Cumbria Tourism and Ordnance Survey.
Kate Thomas, Director, Keswick Mountain Festival, said: “Having Leo to look forward to for the Saturday night slot at the festival is a real coup. We’re delighted that he will be sharing the secrets of his epic adventure with us.”
Lucy Bennett, Director, Keswick Mountain Festival, said: “If Leo inspires you, check out our website www.keswickmountainfestival.co.uk because we’re adding new activities and climbing adventures all the time.”
Tickets for the all speakers are now available directly from the Theatre by the Lake. To book call: 017687 74411 or online: www.theatrebythelake.co.uk.
