A host of writers and photographers whose work has appeared in TGO have been given awards at a recent ceremony.

Ian Battersby scooped the top prize in the words and pictures category at the recent Writers and Photographers Guild (OWPG) annual awards ceremony in Snowdonia for 'Winter Comes To Yorkshire', an article which appeared in TGO's February 2011 issue.

Judges said: “Stunning photography and inspiring words. Like all good outdoor pieces, it makes you want to pull on your boots and head off in the writer's crisp and deep and even footprints.”

Adrian Hendroff’s 'Mountains of a Lonely Land' from TGO's March 2011 issue was also Highly Commended by the judges. They said: “His sunset photos could have been same old same old, but he managed to rise above 'standard' sunset/sunrise pictures.”

Adrian also won the award in the outdoor book category for 'From High Places – A Journey through Ireland’s Great Mountains', published by the History Press, which judges described as “An eye-opener of a book, full of stunningly sharp and strikingly composed photographs, which makes the reader feel like setting off straight away to an easily-reached but under-appreciated part of the world.”

Regular TGO contributor Judy Armstrong also won the best travel feature for 'Rivers Deep, Mountain High', which appeared in France Magazine.

Elsewhere, Kev Reynolds won the guidebook category for his role as contributing editor of 'Trekking in The Alps: 20 Classic Routes', and the outdoor feature award went to Jon Sparks for 'On the Beaten Track', which appeared in Cycle magazine.

Founded in 1980, OWPG is the UK’s only association of media professionals working largely or entirely in the outdoors.
