Fellwalkers and outdoor enthusiasts are being canvassed for support on a project to keep Alfred Wainwright’s original works in the county he loved.
The AW archive includes photographs, correspondence drawings and slides.
The private papers of Alfred Wainwright were put up for sale last week (see earlier news story) for £100,000 with a similar sum needed for conservation of the material.
The collection includes photographs, correspondence drawings and slides.
Cumbria County Council are very keen to acquire the collection to be available for researchers at the County Record Office. An application has been made to the Heritage Lottery Fund for the bulk of the funds.
But it is also very important that people write in support of the bid to the Archivist at the Record Office before the end of February.
The Wainwright Society has been asked to lend its support.
If you feel strongly about this, could you please write or email Peter Eyre expressing your support for the Wainwright Archive to be housed permanently at the County Record Office.
