The Ramblers say that due to the recession there has been a shortfall in donations and they have to reduce the organisation's budget by £1M. It has been proposed that £300,000 should be slashed from both the Scottish and Welsh budgets.
This proposal by the Ramblers Board has potentially catastrophic consequences, particularly in Scotland. The Land Reform (Scotland) Act is still in its infancy and it's thought to be absolutely vital that the Ramblers have a strong and active presence there to campaign against the various issues that will arise.
For some time many walkers have been concerned about the growing London-centric attitude of the Ramblers, a style that is highlighted in the footer to the organisation's emails which portrays the London urban skyline.
