The 33rd TGO Challenge will take place between May 11 and 25, 2012.
The entry form for 2012’s Challenge will appear exclusively in the October and November issues of TGO Magazine, available from newsagents and selected outdoor retailers from late August.
The closing date for entries is Saturday, October 15, 2011. Full details, including the entry fee, will appear alongside the entry form.
As in previous years, only 300 places will be made available (plus a small number for those associated with the event’s organisation and its sponsors). The event is usually over-subscribed, so a draw for places is made after the closing date.
Those exempt from the draw include those on their 10th, 20th or 30th crossings and their walking partners; first-time overseas Challengers and walking partners.

We try to ensure that no-one is disappointed two years running – if you were unlucky in the 2011 draw, we’ll do our best to ensure you get on the 2012 Challenge (this does not apply to those who regained their places from the standby list).
Unlucky in this year’s draw? Worry not – a standby system operates every year. It’s inevitable that a few participants will have to drop out, for various reasons, before the event starts so the names of those unsuccessful in the draw automatically go into another draw, to form the reserve list. Between 30 and 40 people have usually regained places on the event this way.
Note, however, that places only tend to become available this way in the start of the year – the longer you’re willing to wait, the better your chances, though we understand if you’d rather withdraw from the list, and appreciate being informed of this as early as possible.
