Scotland


North Highlands

North of the Great Glen, which runs from Fort William to Inverness, the Northern Highlands contain such classic hillwalking areas as Cluanie and Affric, Torridon, Strathfarrar, the Fannichs and the Beinn Dearg hills. The huge expanse of wild land north of Ullapool contains some of the smaller classics of Scottish hillwalking like Stac Pollaidh, Suilven and Quinaig.

Central Highlands

The area south of the Great Glen, west of the A9 and north of the Tay. Contained within this area are the hills of Ben Nevis, the Aonachs and the Grey Corries, the hills of Glen Coe and Glen Etive, the Blackmount, the Breadalbane hills and the Lawers range.

West Highlands

The areas west of Loch Linnhe including Knoydart, Morven and Ardnamurchan.

East Highlands

The hills of the Grampians east of the A9 and the Glenshee hills, the Deeside hills and the hills of the Angus Glens. Includes the Cairngorms National Park, the largest of all the National Parks in the UK.

The Islands

Including the Isle of Arran, the Isle of Mull, the Isles of Rum and Eigg, the Isle of Skye and the Outer Isles. Also includes the Orkneys and the Shetlands.
