This is another product that will suit those who prefer a long er jacket (it also comes out a bit big in size). The Helium jacket from the Norwegian outdoor giants is well-featured with a wired hood and pit zips. It’s made from Dermizax which is a non-porous membrane – this means it is totally wind and waterproof, but breathability is affected. It also means the pores won’t clog with dirt and grime, instead it is hydrophilic, which means it ‘absorbs’ the moisture that then evaporates as it moves through. In reality, it appears not too noticeably different than other fabrics here, perhaps a little less ‘breathable’ but only on high exertion exercise.

The hood is excellent: wired peak, volume cinch around the whole head, and the face draw cords can be pulled with one hand. It’s a quiet material too. The pockets are cut off at the bottom by a backpack hipbelt as are the two mesh pockets inside. It’s one of the lightest jackets here and packs away easily in one of the pockets. A good, classic jacket for hillwalking.
