This is the lightest pack tested, with by far the best volume-to-weight ratio. It’s the successor to the Vapor Trail, which I reviewed positively a few years ago. To keep the weight down the design is fairly minimalist and the fabrics lightweight, though tougher than the silnylon of the Vapor Trail. The V.C. stands for ‘Vapor Current’, which is Granite Gear’s new suspension system. This uses moulded foam with air channels for the back and a removable framesheet inside. The hipbelt and shoulder straps aren’t as padded as on the Vapor Trail and while that pack was comfortable with 18kg this one is better with lighter loads. I prefer the older, thicker hipbelt. This one is fi ne with 15kg though. The single compartment is quite narrow and has a roll-top. The stretch pockets are useful but would be better if a little larger, especially as there’s no pocket on the top. Even so, if weight really matters this is a good choice. A lid and hipbelt pockets are available as extras.
